When confronted with Kenichi Sasakawa's works, in the midst of silence - we are reminded that our world is sad but beautiful. The fragility, tension, and eternity that reside in the cracked glass that seems to crumble at the touch. It seems like a fragment of something poetic, yet he says that he does not express his feelings about the material, but rather creates his works through a very practical relationship with it. What he sees beyond the material of glass is a beauty that is rooted in sorrow and cruelty, things that are difficult to perceive as beauty in the context of everyday life. The forms created by overlaying the fictional nature of glass on the questions posed to "wabi-sabi,” understood as a typically Japanese beauty, as well as the contradictions of his own nationality, are connected to the emotions of each individual through the latent memory of the form of the vessel. The momentary light that is born and disappears in the course of life is sometimes cruel, but at the same time it has intense beauty. For this exhibition, Kenichi Sasakawa has been preparing for several years to leave his recent lifework of tableware production and introduce his Objects works, which are also his starting point. We hope that many people will be able to feel the passion behind the sensitive eyes of Kenichi Sasakawa.
