Over the past few years, as the world has undergone significant changes and uncertainty, I’ve found myself repeatedly drawn to the moments of beauty that quietly resonate in our everyday lives. With this in mind, I felt compelled to revisit MITSUI’s "silence" series, featuring his exquisite glassworks, and reimagine it as a serene landscape unfolding within the gallery’s pristine white space.
“When I moved from Hiroshima to Toyama, the thing that brought me the most joy was seeing the snowy landscapes. On snowy days, even the usual chaos of morning traffic feels wrapped in silence, thanks to the snow’s sound-dampening effect. Strangely enough, snowfall also makes the world feel warmer. That comforting paradox deeply resonates with me, and I strive to reflect that kind of serene tranquility in my work,” shared MITSUI.
His signature "silence" series, created through glassblowing, explores the delicate balance of tension and release. What began as an experiment in creating a monochromatic atmosphere using colored glass has evolved into a deeply captivating collection, thanks to his masterful craftsmanship and refined artistic sensibility.
As we step into a new year, I hope this exhibition invites you to imagine the beautiful landscapes beyond the glass and offers a moment of peace—a small gift to brighten your daily life.
