Reiko Kinoshita was born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1982. She graduated from the oil painting course at Musashino Art University's Graduate School of Art and Design in 2009. Kinoshita paints by spraying acrylic paint diffused into mist using a paint spray gun instead of a brush. She uses materials with various characteristics as supporting media, such as paper and cloth, and she creates her work while engaging in dialogue with irreversible textures, such as folds and creases, etched into the surface of those materials. This technique was inspired by the development process in analog photography, and revolves around the question: "can the passage of evolving time be depicted in the form of a painting?" Her interest in phenomena such as discoloration, exposure, movement, and velocity creates opportunities for her to create "images that cannot be painted by hand". Furthermore, the way in which her work continues to change after being finished, and her attempt to approach an existence that cannot be fully grasped, reflect the occurrence and transformation of things.
